Neidig Farms Cattle Co. herd bulls do not see corn or grain of any kind. They are generally thrown in a pen over the winter with hay, usually a ground cornstalk/hay mixture, until about April.
When the cows start calving then we tend to feed them a little better.
So, by default, the bulls get some better groceries as well (meaning we start adding more hay and less cornstalks).
If our herd bulls can’t sustain themselves and actually gain condition before spring they head for town. It is very important that those bulls are able to fend for themselves.
If they can’t our guess is their offspring couldn’t either.

| Enhancer has a
near-flawless phenotype as evidenced by his
reserve Division Championships at the 2003 North
American International and 2004 National Western
Stock Show. His dam is a member of Ankony's elite
donor herd and is known for being the dam of
Pelton's Powercat, one of the "power"
red bulls in the breed. Enhancer himself was the
top performing bull in the West Texas Bull Test
Station.
Enhancer has done nothing but continue to impress us. We will admit that we were concerned about him coming home after being shown and eating like a king to eating the “peasant” rations that our herd bulls are used to. Enhancer loosing weight and falling apart was a big concern, however, Enhancer actually gained muscle mass toned up and actually weighed more heading to grass than he did in Denver at the Stock show. This bull defiantly proved his value and we are very excited about his off spring. Currently we have an ET fall born bull calf out of him and Ruby Red and he is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Enhancer covered cows out in Valentine, Nebraska at the Ranch this summer and he still looks great!

Dr. Atkins hit the ground on March 27th, 2004 and has never failed to impress us. His growth was explosive, his frame is very moderate, his disposition is great, he is as sound and as athletic as can be.
We simply can’t wait till his calves hit the ground. This bull was weighed on several occasions his first year of life, he never failed to post a 4.0 (or higher) weight per day of age.
He was CUP scanned at the Nebraska Cattlemen’s Classic on February 17th, 2005 at 10 ˝ months of
age. He had a 16.3 ribeye / .2 back fat / 4.48 IMF
and measured a 37 scrotal at 10 ˝ months old. His scrotal was just recently
re-measured (his age would have been 17 months old) and he measured a 50. This bull is OUTSTANDING and has been touted by many cattlemen as being a breed changer.
NF Dr. Atkins is a purebred Simmental bull sired by our Hot Rod bull that we own with Gateway & Western Cattle Source Dr. Atkins is out of a X339U daughter that is one of the best cows in our herd and she never fails to produce a good one.

He proved to us he could maintain his condition in any environment. Our biggest regret is that we didn’t collect semen on this bull before we took him to town. He came to us as a 3 yr old and worked for us up until last year. You will find a lot of his daughters in our herd, his ability to pass on maternal traits was definitely not ignored by us. |
